Become A Volunteer FireFighter
Join the ranks of the Armagh & East Wheatfield Volunteer Fire Department and make a difference in your community. Our comprehensive training program equips new firefighters with essential skills through courses on everything from basic fire service principles to advanced interior operations.
Intro to the Fire Service – This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to basic information including an overview of the fire service, fire service history, its mission and organization, firefighter safety, personal protective equipment, tools, communications, work areas, and backing apparatus.
Fire Ground Support – This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including fire hose, water supply, hose operations, ropes and knots, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), building construction, and scene lighting.
This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to fire ground operation including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire dynamics, fire extinguishers, forcible entry, ladders, and fire streams/hose line advancement.
This entry level course is designed to introduce new firefighters to interior fire ground operations including air monitoring, search and rescue, firefighter survival, tactical ventilation, interior hose streams, fire suppression, and overhaul, salvage & property conservation.
Training:
There are endless classes to take if you become a volunteer fireman. Most classes you can take locally, in homer city, at the fire academy. Not all are required, but to become an interior fireman, you must take the 4 blocks of essential fire fighting detailed above. Upon passing of these classes the fire department will reimburse you of the money spent. To operate the, jaws of life tools, a vehicle rescue class will be required. Other in house classes will be available monthly.
